Politics Akufo-Addo, appointees from Eastern Region denting image of the region – Eastern Affairs

Head of the Eastern Affairs Forum, a pressure group, has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his appointees from the Eastern Region of tarnishing the region's image.

Mr. Tawiah Boateng made this accusation during an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s mid-day news on Monday, June 24, 2024.

Mr. Boateng claimed that President Akufo-Addo and his appointees have brought disgrace to the region.

He specifically singled out Bryan Acheampong, the Minister for Food and Agriculture; Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, the Executive Director of the Scholarships Secretariat; and Boakye Agyarko, the former Minister for Energy.

According to Mr. Boateng, these individuals have been involved in alleged corruption and nepotism under President Akufo-Addo's watch.

He argued that the Eastern Region, once known as the food basket of the country, now has the highest rate of food inflation in Ghana under Akufo-Addo's presidency.

He claimed that these issues, along with other government failures, have caused many people to feel ashamed whenever President Akufo-Addo is mentioned.

Furthermore, Mr. Boateng criticised the President, who hails from the Eastern Region, for contributing to the deplorable state of roads in the area.

He revealed that the pressure group plans to stage a demonstration against the underdevelopment of the region under President Akufo-Addo’s administration, immediately after the Electoral Commission completes its registration mop-up exercise.
