My leadership will offer sound and prudent economic management — Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has promised Ghanaians that his leadership of the country will offer sound and prudent economic management.

In a social media post on Friday, June 21, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) said economic policy under his government will focus on stabilising the economy and halting the freefall of the cedi.

"Sound and prudent economic management, founded on broad and far-reaching governance and economic reforms, will take root in Ghana under my leadership," Mahama wrote.

He noted that the current depreciation of the cedi against major foreign currencies like the dollar is detrimental to Ghana's economy.

Mahama pledged to address the currency woes and ensure stability if elected in the upcoming elections.

"My priority will be to stabilise the economy and halt the deterioration in the Cedi's value against other currencies. Economic policy will be geared towards sustainable growth, with an equitable distribution of the proceeds of that growth," the former president said.

Mahama's comments come at a time the cedi is struggling against the dollar due to downturns in the economy.

Many Ghanaians have expressed concern about the currency situation and are looking forward to solutions.
