Edward Michael Ennin, a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament has alleged that many current NPP MPs enriched themselves by receiving lucrative government contracts during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In an interview with Accra-based Onua FM on Friday, June 21, Edward Ennin, the former MP for Obuasi-East constituency, stated that "COVID-19 made a lot of people millionaires, including some MPs I know. Contracts were given to them, NPP MPs. They now drive in good cars and have a lot of houses."
Ennin did not provide any specific names but insisted some government officials leveraged their positions to profit from funds meant to address the pandemic.
"We got money coming to the country and the Auditors even find it difficult to account for the money," he added.
The former MP also criticized the competency of some ministers appointed by the NPP government.
"Majority of the appointed ministers are not up to the task, it is not by merit, I don’t want to mention names, this is Africa, when you mention names, they think you hate them.
“But as an individual, you can pick a Minister, look at his work, access their achievements, and check if they deserve to be there," Ennin stated.
