Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) has suspended one of its shop attendants at its North Legon service station in Accra following a physical altercation with a customer caught on video.
In a statement issued by the company's Corporate Affairs Department, GOIL spokesperson Jane Doe said the incident occurred due to a disagreement over payment between the attendant and the customer, which escalated into a verbal exchange.
The video, which circulated widely on social media, shows the attendant grabbing and pushing the customer aggressively.
Regarding the video evidence, GOIL noted, "We consider the attendant's behaviour as unwarranted inappropriate, lack of empathy and in violation of the company's customer service practices."
GOIL has apologized unreservedly to the affected customer.
“GOlL condemns the behaviour of the attendant and unreservedly apologize to the customer for the unfortunate incident," said the statement.
The attendant has been suspended immediately while a full investigation is conducted.
It emphasized, "The identified shop attendant has therefore been suspended forthwith pending the conclusion of full investigations."
Going forward, GOIL said it will enhance customer feedback mechanisms and staff training.
“We wish to encourage all customers to continue to give us feedback to address such incidents and to assist in improving service delivery regarding GOCafe transactions and customer interactions," added the statement.
