Hands Off Our Hotels Demo: ‘Bryan, don’t be a thief’ – Protesters demand as they march in Accra
LISTEN

Hundreds of protesters marched in Accra on Tuesday, June 18, to demand a stop to the sale of four hotels belonging to Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to Rock City Ltd, owned by Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong.

The demonstration organised by North Tongu Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa was patronised by members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Greater Accra Traditional leaders, Organised Labour, Civil Society Organisations, as well we ordinary Ghanaians.

During the demonstration, protesters made it clear that they were against the sale of SSNIT hotels including the Labadi Beach Hotel.

Some of the placards displayed during that march accused the ruling government of thievery.

Others also warned Bryan Acheampong to stay away from SSNIT hotels.

Speaking about the demonstration, North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa emphasised that it is time for the county to rise against state capture.

He said no politician or politically exposed person should not be allowed to purchase state assets.

“It is time to stop the state capture, it is time to stop the plundering, it is time to rise up as a nation and say enough is enough. No politician should be allowed to purchase state assets. This kind of insider dealing must not be accepted,” Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said.
