The Ministry of Health has directed the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to conclude its investigation into an alleged case of patient abandonment and submit a report within 30 days.
This follows reports that a patient on admission at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba was allegedly taken in an ambulance and dumped in a bush in Gomoa Ojobi.
The unnamed woman was said to have been left in a wheelchair after her relatives failed to show up.
She was later found dead.
In a letter to the GHS, Health Minister Dr. Bernard Oko-Boye said he has taken notice of the decision to ask the Medical Director of the hospital to step aside pending investigation.
He said "It is the position of the Ministry that this process is concluded within a maximum of 30 days from the date of constitution of the committee and a report submitted to my office."
The Minister added that he appreciated the "prompt action taken by the Ghana Health Service to constitute a committee to conduct an independent inquiry into the matter."
He said he is "confident that the committee will uncover the facts surrounding this unfortunate incident and make recommendations to prevent such occurrences in the future."
