The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has announced a nationwide strike action.
In a press release dated Friday, June 14, CETAG said the strike action takes effect immediately in all 46 public colleges of education in the country.
“The National Executive Committee (NEC) with the consent and agreement of the National Council and the entire members of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) writes per Article 15 Section 3 of the CETAG Constitution to declare an indefinite strike involving all 46 public colleges of education in Ghana from Friday 14th June 2024,” parts of the press release said.
In the release, CETAG said it is forced to direct its members to strike due to the failure of its Employer to comply with the National Labour Commission (NLC) decisions and orders given by the Compulsory Arbitration Awards agreed by the parties.
The agreement included an order for the payment of one month's salary to each entitled member of CETAG as compensation for additional duty performed in 2022.
In addition, there was an order that the agreed rates of allowances payable to public universities be applied to deserving members of CETAG.
Following the failure of the Employer to comply, CETAG has now laid down its tools to protest.
