Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, has called on supporters to exercise patience and allow Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer, the time to decide on his running mate for the upcoming elections.

Mr. Owusu-Agyemang emphasized that the presidential candidate's name and face are the ones that will appear on the ballot paper, making it crucial for Dr. Bawumia to assert his leadership and engage in thorough consultations before making such an important decision.

He noted that the current pressure on Dr. Bawumia to hastily choose a running mate is unfounded.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show, Mr. Owusu-Agyemang highlighted the importance of following the prescribed process for selecting a vice presidential candidate.

He urged those publicly lobbying for the position to stop their campaigns. “It has never happened before in the life of this particular party, the NPP, where there have been pressures and campaigns all over the place for who partners him (Bawumia),” Mr. Owusu-Agyemang remarked.

“At the end of the day, it is Dr. Bawumia’s face and name which will be on the ballot paper. There are 16 regions; carrying out his duty as vice president, sometimes acting as president, and then going around takes a bit of time, so he needs time to do all these things and follow due process in consultation with the national council,” he added.

Members of Dr. Bawumia's campaign team have indicated that the flagbearer is expected to select a running mate this month.

Senior campaign aide Sammi Awuku revealed on ‘Yen Nsempa’ on Onua FM on Tuesday, May 14, that Dr. Bawumia plans to announce his running mate in June.

Similarly, the Vice Chairman of the Bawumia Campaign team, Nana Akomea, confirmed that the NPP flagbearer will present a name to the party’s National Council for consideration by the end of June.
