The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, supported by the Chief of Bantama, Baffour Owusu Amakwatia VI, has planted over 25,000 trees in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
On Friday, June 7, 2024, the foundation and the esteemed chief collaborated with local basic schools in Bantama to plant the trees.
Speaking at the event, Baffour Owusu Amakwatia VI urged the public to actively participate in tree planting to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change. "This initiative is crucial for restoring and conserving Ghana's degraded lands and forests, and it requires everyone's involvement," he emphasized.
Madam Abigail Owusu, the Head of Stakeholder Relations for the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, reiterated the foundation's commitment to supporting national reforestation efforts, particularly in the Ashanti Region. She disclosed that the foundation planned to plant 25,000 seedlings as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Asantehene.
"The foundation, along with divisional heads, aims to extend tree planting efforts beyond Green Ghana Day," she stated. "We are grateful to our partners for their consistent support in implementing major interventions for the vulnerable in the country."
Madam Owusu also noted that the foundation prioritizes water and sanitation, emphasizing that environmental conservation through tree planting is essential to achieving their goals.
