The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has disclosed that the major blackout experienced in parts of Accra on Wednesday night was a result of the fire outbreak that occurred at Circle ECOMOG.
In a press release, ECG said the fire outbreak affected the GRIDCo 161KV transmission network causing interruption of power supply.
Although power was restored to some of the affected areas late in the night, other customers had to sleep in the dark.
The Electricity Company of Ghana through its release apologised for the inconvenience and assured that it is working to restore power to all affected areas.
“The Electricity Company of Ghana wishes to inform our cherished customers and the general public that at 5:31pm on Wednesday, May 5, 2024, a fire outbreak occurred on structures near the GRIDCo 161KV transmission network causing interruption of power supply to the Accra Central bulk supply point (BSP).
“Although limited supply was restored to the BSP, the technical challenge later impacted the Mallam BS also, leading to the current interruption of power supply to customers in mainly the Western parts of Accra.
“ECG wishes to assure the affected customers that immediately GRIDCO rectifies the technical challenge, power will be restored,” parts of the ECG press release said.
It added, “The inconvenience being caused by this power outage is deeply regretted.”
