Sejong, 4 June 2024 — On 4 June 2024 in Seoul, Minister Song Miryung of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Korea shared the current affairs of agriculture such as food security and climate change with Minister Henry Musa Kpaka of Agriculture and Food Security of the Republic of Sierra Leone who visited South Korea on the occasion of the Korea-Africa Summit and had bilateral discussions on the expansion of agricultural cooperation through the K-Ricebelt project, food aid, and technology cooperation.

In 2023, both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of the K-Ricebelt project. With Sierra Leone having been selected as a new recipient country of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ food aid project for this year, 2,400 tonnes of rice will be supplied to 100,000 people in around 500 schools in the country.

Korean Agriculture Minister Song Miryung asked Minister Henry Musa Kpaka of Sierra Leone to expand opportunities so that Korean agro-industrial products such as fertilizers and agricultural machines can be widely used in Africa’s agriculture and Korean companies can enter the African market, as Korean agricultural machines and equipment are highly competitive in a global market.
