The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Attorney General of Ghana, Godfred Yeboah Dame of gross professional misconduct in the ongoing trial involving the procurement of ambulances under the previous NDC government.

At a press conference on Tuesday, National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia accused Mr. Dame of engaging in "criminal and devious" acts in the case.

According to Nketia, the NDC has obtained evidence from voice recordings between Dame and the third accused person Richard Jakpa which proves the AG's misconduct.

In the recordings played at the presser, Mr. Dame is allegedly heard "goading, urging, impressing upon and coaching" Jakpa to bear false testimony against the first accused Cassiel Ato Forson, who is the Minority Leader of Parliament.

This appears to affirm Jakpa’s revelation in court last week about the AG engaging him at odd hours to help implicate the former Deputy Finance Minister.

Mr. Nketia said the recordings capture Dame's "professional misconduct, unethical behaviour and criminal conduct" which is "reprehensible and totally unpardonable."

"This gross professional misconduct on the part of no less a person than the Attorney-General, who as the leader of the Bar bears a high responsibility to adhere to the rules of ethics of the legal profession, is reprehensible and totally unpardonable."

"This conduct of Attorney-General Godfred Dame offends Rules 13, 40 and 54 of the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct and Etiquette Rules) L.I. 2324,” said Asiedu Nketiah

The accusation comes amid an ongoing trial involving Dr. Ato Forson and two others over the purchase of ambulances during John Mahama's administration.

The NDC has consistently maintained that the case is politically motivated.
