The CEO of the Atta Mills Institute, Samuel Koku Anyidoho, has opined on a promise made by National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader John Mahama regarding the digitalization of revenue collection and payment systems.
In a post on X on Tuesday, May 28, Mr. Anyidoho, a former NDC Deputy General Secretary, said he is shocked that the former president is now considering digitalization.
He said his shock stems from the fact that NDC communicators have been vilifying New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over his digitalization agenda.
"Did he actually use the word 'Digitalizing'? I don't believe he used that word! Have we not heard some of his apologists insulting DMB for his digitalization projects for efficiency in our system? So will his apologists insult him too? Honestly, I am shocked!" read his post.
This comes after former President John Mahama promised to digitalize Ghana’s revenue collection and payment systems.
He posited that payments to government services in cash will be phased out by the end of his tenure in 2028.
"We will continue digitalizing our revenue collection and payment systems. By 2028, we aim to phase out cash as a form of payment for all government services. We will also entrench the use of POS devices in transactions to make tax and levies collection more transparent," said the NDC flagbearer.
