At the just ended New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries on the 27th of January, 2024 some Members of Parliament (MP’s) lost their seats to new people who are now the Parliamentary Candidates (PC’s) for the NPP in those areas. Notable among them in Eastern Region are Fanteaka North, Abuakwa North and Fanteakwa south Constituencies.
It is also a known fact that even though these MP’s have lost their seats but they continue to remain as MP’s until the eve of 6th January, 2025 and therefore are still responsible for the needs of their respective constituencies.
However, a careful observations and information circulating in these constituencies are that most of these MP’s who lost are refusing to pay for things like scholarship’s and other statutory or mandated obligations which they were using the District Assembly Common Fund, insisting that they are not going for any elections so the new PC’s should continue with those obligations. Not only are they involved in these acts, some of them are also shielding programs and projects from the new PC’s by blatantly refusing to inform and involve them of their activities and doing them solely to project themselves, only God knows to what extent?
I am of the opinion that these attitudes must be checked with immediate effect and halted since it is against the Constitution and the rules and regulations once they remains as MP’s.
A lot of youth in these constituencies are complaining and if care is not taken it will affect the mantra of breaking the 8 and the party’s quest to increase votes in those Constituencies.
I am therefore using this medium to appeal to the New Patriotic Party’s Chairman, Mr Stephen Ayensu Ntim and the General Secretary Lawyer Justine Kodua to call all the MP’s who lost their seats who are engaged in this act to stop or they will derail the break the 8 mantra of the Party.
