Member of Parliament (MP) for Odododiodioo constituency, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has slammed the Electoral Commission’s (EC) handling of the ongoing voter registration exercise.

Speaking on Accra-based CitiTV's 'The Big Issue' program on Saturday, May 11, Nii Lante Vanderpuye asserted that the EC has failed to exhibit the revered role it is expected to play in Ghana's democracy.

"The EC has not conducted itself in a very respectable manner for the kind of sensitive position they hold. They are supposed to be the most revered institution in our democracy, but they haven’t conducted themselves well," the MP stated.

The opposition NDC has been dragging the EC in recent times over what it perceives as unfair treatment from the election management body.

The EC recently denied the opposition party’s request to record the serial numbers of BVR kits being used in the ongoing voter registration exercise, a move the NDC has rejected.

Meanwhile, the EC wraps up its limited voter registration exercise on Monday, May 20.

The registration exercise began on May 7 and is aimed at capturing eligible Ghanaians who have now turned 18.
