The Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah has praised the government's relaunch of its online performance tracking portal for public infrastructure projects.
The portal is aimed at increasing transparency around the progress and outcomes of key projects under the government's infrastructure development drive.
It allows citizens to monitor updates on roads, schools, hospitals and other initiatives in real time through photos, videos and data visualizations accessible on a dedicated website.
In a post on X on Friday, April 12, Mr. Braimah commended the move and urged that all government’s do same for the sake of accountability.
“The relaunch of the Govt's performance tracker portal is commendable. Any effort by a gov't to openly showcase what it has done and to make that a subject of public scrutiny, contributes to enhancing transparency and accountability in governance. All gov'ts must do same,” he wrote.
The performance tracker addresses past complaints about a lack of reliable and up-to-date information being shared with the public about project statuses.
Launched on April 10, at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, the redesigned portal covers major infrastructure schemes under the current administration.
According to information from the Information Ministry, it outlines progress and outcomes to foster greater accountability to taxpayers.
Meanwhile, the technical team working on the portal said some 67 mistaken entries had been omitted from and 74 omitted projects were now included after attention was drawn to them by the public.
