One would have thought that the kleptocratic and the self-righteous leadership of Ghana’s main opposition political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), would have called for an Emergency Parliamentary Session to seriously and vigorously debate how it came about that the Gborbu Wulormo or the traditionally invested and the legitimately inducted Chief Priest of the Nungua Township, in the Greater-Accra Region, Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsuru, XXXIII, and his immediate overlord, the Chief of Nungua, and the invested and traditionally recognized Elders of the Nungua Royal Family, were allowed to proceed with the Statutory Rape of a 12-year-old girl – now it is being claimed that the bride is 16 years old, instead, it is still a veritably criminal case of Statutory Rape – by the name of Naa Okromo, all in the name of “Marriage.”
On the latter count must be quickly pointed out that the Gborbu Wulormo, that is, the Chief Priest of the Nungua Traditional Municipality, is 63 years old! (See “63-year-old Gborbu Wulomo marries 12-year-old girl in controversial customary marriage at Nungua” Modernghana.com 3/31/24). Now, the fact of this scandalous act of sacrilege of the most heinous order’s being collusively perpetrated in silence by the leadership of the National Democraric Congress and their equally charlatanic associates and members of the Nungua Traditional Council, is not the least bit surprising to this writer because shameless populist talk and all, the NDC leadership has absolutely no respect for the Human and the Civil Rights of Women, short of cheaply using highly accomplished women like Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to grab clearly undeserved power, so that they could savagely continue to run our beloved Ghana and our real and true moral and cultural values literally aground.
You see, it does not for even a split-second occur to such National Democratic Congress’ Kingmakers as Messrs. Johnson “The Mosquito” Asiedu-Nketia, Alban SK Bagbin and John “Ford Expedition Payola” Dramani Mahama, that if the likes of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and Nana Oye Lithur, to mention just two of the most obvious examples that readily come to mind, had been so luridly betrothed to superannuated statutory rapists like the Gborbu Wulormo of Nungua in their preteen years, there would be absolutely no women of substance and leadership caliber for the morally depraved and bankrupt Kingmakers of the National Democratic Congress to recruit as Vice-Presidential Candidates, let alone as Ministers of State.
This is precisely the sort of 24-Hour Economy that the Serial and the Dynastic Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress, Mr. John “Gnassingbe” (Ouagadougou-Nkonfem Flying) Dramani Mahama, has been smugly crisscrossing the country and cavalierly talking about, almost as if the overwhelming majority of Ghanaian voters have Ko(n)konte, that is, Dried Cassava Powder, packed underneath our skulls. It is also not clear to us just how criminally forcing 12-year-old girls into marriage with men more than old enough to be their grandparents is any more morally and culturally refined than allowing the largely law-abiding members of the LGBTQ+ Community in our beloved Sovereign Democratic Republic of Ghana to live their separate and collective lives in peace and quiet, without being gratuitously assaulted and legally proscribed by such shameless and vision-bereft political bullies as Messrs. Moses Foh-Amoaning, Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong and the hoodlum pack of profiteering and parasitic so-called Men and Women of God, preaching and prancing all over the country and literally making life ungovernable for people who have done absolutely nothing against them, their relatives and friends.
But, of course, it also begins to make a humongous bit of sense that Candidates Mahama and Opoku-Agyemang would callously promise to revoke or abrogate the Akufo-Addo-implemented and historically unprecedented Fee-Free Senior High School System (FF-SHSS) within just a year of being criminally returned to Jubilee House, on the dubious grounds of the latter’s having been poorly implemented and thus abjectly lacking the proper direction. The fact of the matter, however, is that Candidate Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who educated all her now-adult children in the Americas, largely on scholarship grants, has absolutely no respect or confidence in Ghana’s public education system, and cannot be expected to return into government with any progressive or materially worthwhile contributions to make towards the significant upgrading of the country’s perennially ailing public education system.
To be certain, she is a major and an integral part of the problem. In short, she has absolutely no vested interest in both the fortunes and the misfortunes or the drawbacks of Ghana’s public education system, unlike Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum, the country's most astute and progressive Educational Administrator and Ghana’s current Minister of Education who, although is American trained, has his children and wards enrolled in our public school system right here at home.
At any rate. The statutory and the ritual raping of 12-year-old Naa Okromo by the Gborbu Wulormo, with the criminal complicity of the members of the Nungua Traditional Council and, by extension, the Ga-Adangbe or Greater-Accra Traditional Council, must not go unsanctioned by the forward-looking Akufo-Addo-led government of the New Patriotic Party, the august Supreme Court of Ghana, the African Court of Human Rights and the Ghana National House of Chiefs, among a legion of other institutional custodians and protectors of our Civil and Human Rights and the inviolable preservation of our moral and cultural integrity. Societies and civilizations are constantly growing and changing for the better, for the most part, and postcolonial Ghanaian cultures cannot remain frozen in the past.
