The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has promised swift action against those responsible for the deaths of three people during clashes in Manso Tontokrom in the Ashanti region over the weekend.
In a statement dated March 4, the Ministry said it is "currently investigating the matter in collaboration with the appropriate security authorities."
It assured "the perpetrators of such act will be dealt with according to the laws of the Republic if found culpable."
The clashes occurred on Saturday, March 2, when security personnel of Asanko Gold Mine reportedly opened fire on residents, killing one.
Enraged locals, in retaliation, lynched two members of the private security team and severely injured another, leading to three deaths in total.
The Ministry commended efforts of the District Security Council (DISEC) in helping restore calm.
However, it warned tensions remain high, calling on "all stakeholders in and around Tontokrom to remain calm as we look comprehensively into the matter."
This comes as local residents have long accused mining firm security and military deployments of brutality in policing illegal miners.
