The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region has responded to the recent press conference by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the purported attack by the NDC General Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey on the person of the vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, saying the veep has not lived his life as a true northerner.
In a press release copied to this portal signed by the NDC's regional secretary, Mohammed Abdul Salam, the NDC said, "Every Ghanaian irrespective of their ethnic extraction has been thought to learn to be humble, accept responsibility for their failings or transgressions and most importantly say the simple words- 'I am sorry'".
"Bawumia has been a bad example of a northerner. In 2018, he gave expired rice and oil to victims of the Bagre dam flood. It is the height of depravity for anyone to take political advantage of his own people in trying times. Therefore, the characterization of him by the General Secretary is the ugly truth", the statement added.
The NDC also believed what its opponents did in their presser was a "distortion of facts", which according to the party Ghanaians have come to realise ever since they came to power.
"The recent press statement issued by the Northern Regional Leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding comments made by the NDC General Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey, was replete with distortions and half-truths that have been peddled by the NPP from the time they were in opposition. The good people of Ghana have sadly come to realise that most of these mischaracterizations of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama were false", Mr. Salam said.
he added that, "The NPP has been a spectacular failure and have dealt our economy a hard blow that will take only responsible leadership to restore Ghana back to its former path of growth. Never have we seen a government that is so corrupt to the soul. It is as if the NPP government was elected to engage in stealing competition of our collective resources."
