Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) parliamentary candidate aspirant for Yendi in the 2024 primaries, has refuted claims that she will contest the constituency seat as an independent candidate in the next elections.
In a statement issued by her spokesperson Shamsudeen Abdul-Rahaman, Hajia Abibata dismissed a flyer circulating on social media announcing her intention to contest as an independent.
"Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama has no such intention, so the flyer should be treated with the contempt that it deserves. She remains a loyal and committed Danquah-Busia-Dambo tradition patriot," noted the statement dated February 22.
The aspirant emphasized that under no circumstance would she "ever ditch the tradition" she represents.
Her spokesperson described the flyer as an attempt by her detractors "to cause disaffection for her within the rank and file of the New Patriotic Party."
Hajia Abibata is still waiting for the party's resolution on the infractions which marred the January 27, parliamentary primaries, said the statement.
"She believes in the democratic principles and values of the party and patiently waits for a resolution by the Party," the statement added.
