Dr. Bawumia smartly swerving Gabby Otchere Darko and Ofori-Atta in his team?

Dr. Bawumia smartly swerving Gabby Otchere Darko and Ofori-Atta in his team?

In as much as it is enormously difficult for Dr. Bawumia to run away from his contentious economic and digital rhetorics, it could almost be impossible to avoid humiliating defeat to former President Mahama of the NDC if Dr. Bawumia surrounded himself especially with Gabby Otchere Darko and Ken Ofori-Atta in his team again.

It is unquestionable that Gabby and Ofori-Atta have played influential roles in Akufo-Addo’s regime so far. While Gabby is a non-appointee in the Akufo-Addo’s government, he was often cited in some crucial deals such as the botched PDS and Agyapa deals, etc. while Ken Ofori-Atta appears to have a firm grip on his Finance Minister position despite his unsatisfactory management of the economic for the past over 7 years.

Both Gabby and Ofori-Atta openly expressed their support for Dr. Bawumia even before he contested and won the NPP’s Flagbearership race on November 4, 2023.

President Akufo-Addo’s subtle endorsement of Dr. Bawumia as his favourite Presidential candidate, Dr. Bawumia qualified him as the ‘establishment candidate’ which saw Akufo-Addo’s appointees towing his line to support Dr. Bawumia's candidacy while Alan Kyeremanteng felt cheated and left the NPP Party all together to be an Independent Presidential candidate going into the 2024 general elections.

There was no way Dr. Bawumia could have survived the NPP Presidential primaries without the express support of Gabby and Ofori-Atta then, considering the wieght both yield in this current Akufo-Addo-led government.

Visibly troubled President Akufo-Addo wanted Dr. Bawumia to support his unconvincing track record so far by admonishing the ‘showdown’ Kennedy Agyapong and other Presidential candidates not to openly criticize his bad track record no matter what. Mr. President, you are not fair to Ghanaians with such your comment who put you in the Flagstaff House in the first place.

Now that Dr. Bawumia oversees the NPP Party leadership, he appears to be smartly swerving Gabby Otchere Darko and Ken Ofori-Atta by setting a tone in his delivered Vision speech which is against Akufo-Addo’s agenda including abolishment of killer taxes and claiming to be his own man.

Ghanaians are visibly tired of this nepotistic government of President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia and want to see the back of this current regime out in the upcoming general elections.

I held a strong view in one of my write-ups that if Dr. Bawumia were President, Gabby would be appointed a Minister and Ofori-Atta retained as the Finance Minister in his regime (see publication:

Dr. Bawumia just wants to play safe now and possibly bring back both Gabby and Ofori-Atta back into his regime if he were to win the upcoming presidential election. This will not still work for Dr. Bawumia with many Voters today because Ghanaian Voters are no more gullible, and they are aware of Dr. Bawumia’s exposed ‘political shrewdness’.

Dr. Bawumia is now in a whirl of confusion as to distancing himself from Akufo-Addo’s appalling records together with the two close cousins of the President to get sympathy votes from Ghanaian Voters.

Dr. Bawumia must rather take full responsibility of the mess created by him and his Boss, Akufo-Addo and not running away from their failures but rather embracing supposed good stories of the same government, of which he is centrally part.
