Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has indicated that he is not pursuing his presidential ambition to amass wealth.
According to him, he wants to lead the country to continue coming up with initiatives and policies to solve problems facing the country.
“I entered politics to serve the nation. My passion is solving problems. My passion is helping the poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged in society. Accumulation of wealth is not and has never been my passion or ambition.
“This why throughout my public life I have pursued policies, especially through digitalization, to check corruption in places like the ports, DVLA, NHIS, Passport Office, CAGD, etc. So, I have a solid track record in fighting corruption. And I have earned a reputation for doing so,” Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said.
The Vice Presidential said this last Wednesday when he was delivering his national address at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
In his address, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia assured that given the chance to lead the country as President, he will take bold steps to scrap some of the taxes imposed by the ruling government including the emission tax, VAT on electricity, and the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy).
Although many particularly the opposition NDC have described the Vice President’s promises as complete lies, he has received support from other quarters including Senior Vice President of IMANI-Africa, Mr. Kofi Bentil.
He has argued that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is a better option when compared to former President John Dramani Mahama whose performance is known.
