Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has called on Ghanaians to place their trust in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, emphasizing that he has demonstrated competence and effectiveness in handling the responsibilities assigned to him.

Dr. Bawumia unveiled his vision for Ghana on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at an event at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

Addressing critics who attribute economic challenges to the Akufo-Addo administration, Minister Oppong Nkrumah defended Dr. Bawumia's track record, particularly in the area of digitalization.

He highlighted successful initiatives, such as the synchronization of the Ghana Card with SSNIT, GRA, and banking transactions, as well as the networking of hospitals nationwide.

During a panel discussion on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show, the Minister asserted that under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, approximately "80 percent of our promises [are] either completed or in progress," referencing the New Patriotic Party's 2017 manifesto.

Reacting to criticism of Dr. Bawumia's alleged role in the economic challenges, the Information Minister clarified that the Vice President cannot be held accountable for the performance of ministers overseeing specific sectors.

He emphasized that if a ministry fails to deliver on its work, it would be unjust to blame the Vice President, who does not have direct responsibility for that particular sector.

"If Nana Addo's government promises that we will establish Creative Arts studios, the Vice President is not a Tourism Minister.

“So if, in the end, the Tourism Ministry doesn't deliver, it will be difficult to say you are holding the Vice President responsible for it, especially when in our constitutional arrangement, he has no direct responsibility over it," Minister Oppong Nkrumah explained.

Minister Oppong Nkrumah concluded by stating, "you must believe him because, first, the NPP broadly has delivered on the majority of its promises despite the challenges today, and, second, the specific things that Dr. Bawumia was charged to handle, the evidence is clear of how he has handled it."
