The founding President of policy think tank IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has advised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to merge some ministries in order to reduce the number of ministers to save cost.

Mr. Cudjoe's call comes amid rumors that the President will announce a cabinet reshuffle on Sunday, February 11.

“Reshuffle finally on the way. But we need a root and stem approach. Merge and drop some ministries too," he wrote in a Facebook post on Friday, February 9.

Ghanaians have been calling for a reshuffle of the cabinet but the President previously noted in an interview that his ministers have been performing "unprecedentedly."

He said calls for a reshuffle were coming from opposition NDC members seeking to destabilize his administration.

However, demands for a reshuffle have been resurfaced following the President's recent dismissal of 24 municipal and metropolitan chief executives.

Policy experts like IMANI Africa Vice President Kofi Bentil have argued that changing local government officials will only be meaningful if paired with a ministerial reshuffle to improve governance.
