The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has launched a beta version of its Macroeconomic Database Portal, providing the public with easy access to comprehensive economic and financial data.
In a statement released on Monday, February 5, BoG said the portal will offer "a single environment for extracting and visualising macroeconomic data".
The central bank noted it is also in fulfilment of its commitment to greater transparency in monetary policymaking under the inflation targeting framework.
"The provision of this portal is in line with international best practice and the Bank’s commitment to greater transparency associated with its inflation targeting framework of monetary policy.
“The portal will also help meet data request demands from the general public and support research work,” noted the statement.
The data on the portal is organized according to five economic sectors - external, financial, fiscal, monetary and real sector indicators.
It currently houses 255 monthly and 86 quarterly time series obtained from BoG and other agencies.
The portal launch is envisioned to promote transparency and accountability in line with BoG's legal mandate, as the central bank seeks to better inform public discourse with easily accessible comprehensive economic analyses.
