It is apparent that Ghanaians will not see noticeable improvement in terms of development before President Akufo-Addo’s last tenure elapses on January 7, 2025.

The foundation of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led regime was built with sandy soil leading to crushing of Ghana's economic fundamentals and unabated general hardships being experienced by the ordinary Ghanaians in this election year.

President Akufo-Addo has proven to be a public orator and can advise other African and world leaders quite well, but he always fails to walk his talk in Ghana. Let me refer readers to a recent publication entitled ‘President Akufo-Addo advises others well but does next to nothing himself’ for details (www.modernghana.com, April 30, 2023).

President Akufo-Addo advised African leaders during the US-African leaders’ Summit in the Washington DC in December 2022 not to go begging for aid from the West, but his government saddled Ghana with so much national debt now from incessant borrowing.

The squalid living conditions of majority of Ghanaians under this current Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led regime have vindicated former President Mahama who was an engaging and pragmatic President.

Isn’t surprising to see Ghanaians go through these hardships under President Akufo-Addo who said that Ghana was sitting on money and because of mismanagement by the Mahama-led government, we were simply hungry?

The agitation of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) of Ghana not to pay the increased VAT on electricity including the poorest of the poor households in Ghana is demonstrable of the insensitivity of this governing NPP government led by Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia.

This Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led regime is not thinking of further reducing government expenditure to cut costs and use that to cushion Ghanaians especially in the electricity side, which is a basic need for survival. This governing NPP government has ironically moved away from its campaign promise of moving Ghana’s economy from ‘taxation to production’ to now ‘taxation to more taxation’. This turn of events is not fair to Ghanaians!

The continuous deterioration of the living conditions of Ghanaians for the past over 7 years is highly concerning and has the potential of crushing the credentials of Ghana as an ‘Island of peace’ in the sub-Saharan Africa. The current squalid living conditions of Ghanaians are a breeding ground for unrest.

Ghana experienced a series of military takeovers before until our enduring 30-year-old Fourth Republican dispensation was birthed by late former President Rawlings.

Despite some shortfalls of our 30-year-old Parliamentary democracy, it is still better than any form of military takeover, be it bloodless or bloody. Therefore, it is our singular duty to ensure that we all hold our cherished and enduring democracy together firmly until Ghanaians decide on December 7, 2024, amid the untold general hardships and mismanagement of the economy under this insensitive Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led government.

The clarion call to change this non-performing Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led government through the ballot is a very legitimate one. The Flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Party itself are bereft of new ideas now.

Let us go out there on the election day on December 7, 2024, and cast our votes to elect the preferred Presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama of the NDC Party and Parliamentary candidates for a better future for all but not what we are experiencing now under this governing NPP Party.

Which political party manifesto inspires hope?
