Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei has emerged victorious in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries for the Okaikwei North constituency despite facing criticism for contesting as a sitting MP in another seat.

Asiamah-Adjei, the incumbent MP for Akuapem North, polled 341 votes to defeat five other contenders in Saturday's contest held by the NPP.

Her closest challenger was Afia Akoto who secured 228 votes, while Stephen Nyarko finished third with 105 votes.

A total of 850 delegates participated in the election to select a candidate for the 2024 general elections.

However, some aspirants had complained about Asiamah-Adjei's decision to run in Okaikwei North while still representing Akuapem North in parliament.

They argued it was wrong for a sitting MP to seek re-election in another constituency without first resigning from the current seat.

Their criticism was linked to former NPP National Organizer Sammi Awuku's intention to run in Akuapem North, thus forcing Asiamah-Adjei to look for another constituency.

Sammi Awuku has since been elected unopposed as the NPP's parliamentary candidate for the 2024 elections.
