Kennedy Agyapong, a flagbearer hopeful for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed his belief in the abilities of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen to garner votes in the 2024 general elections.
He noted that Kyerematen, who has resigned from the party to run as an independent presidential candidate, could potentially surprise everyone in the upcoming elections.
Speaking to his supporters at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi after a well-attended "Showdown Walk," Mr Agyapong emphasised that Kyerematen remains relevant in Ghana's political landscape, despite facing criticism and insults from some members of the NPP.
Mr Agyapong pointed out that traditional Asante voters would support him.
He also expressed disappointment with some members of the party who have insulted Kyerematen, particularly on a television station owned by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Mr Agyapong referred to Chairman Wontumi as a "small boy" who allowed such insults to occur on his television channel.
Additionally, Mr Agyapong disclosed that he had been offered a Vice Presidential slot and a substantial amount of money to step down from the flagbearer race, but he declined both offers, opting to pursue his own course.
