12.03.2007 LISTEN
By Winston Tamakloe, Ho

THE Volta Regional Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Mr. Prince Ahiadzro has tendered his resignation as chairman of the party and also announced his retirement from active party politics.

He cited lack of time for his personal concerns, family commitment and business as reasons, saying those were not allowing him to effectively and efficiently steer affairs of the party in the region.

These were contained in a statement signed and issued here on Wednesday March 7, and copied to the General Secretary, the Regional Secretary and the media in Ho.

Mr. Ahiadzro who has been the chairman of the party for the past four years, said he had taken the decision after reflecting soberly on his political career since his election to the high office as a regional chairman of a CPP stronghold.

He said, 'I wish to submit my resignation as the Volta Regional chairman of the Convention People’s Party with effect from March, 2007, and I have also decided to retire from active party politics'.

Mr Ahiadzro expressed profound gratitude to all and sundry and thanked them for their cooperation and support in an effort to re-build the CPP during his tenure of office.

Some members of the party in the Volta Region have described Mr. Ahiadzro’s decision as a big blow to the party in the region because of his selfless and meritorious service to the party.

They said his decision to retire from active partisan politics could affect the fortunes of the party in the 2008 general election.

They hoped that he would rescind his decision and move the CPP forward in the region.
