Senegal World Cup star El Hadji Diouf could be on his way to Atletico Madrid in Spain at the end of the season, the daily sports paper AS is reporting.

The 26-year-old former African Footballer of the Year is said to be keen to make the move although he is still contracted to English club Bolton Wanderers until June 20, 2009.

His agent Alexandre Krstic said he had had talks with the Spanish club but no formal negotiations.

Just last month, Diouf - who spent an unsuccessful spell with Liverpool - insisted he was comfortable with his current career path, saying: "This is more than a football club. This is a family.

"Everyone is working hard. We want to surprise people.

"When I first said I was coming here, people laughed. Now they know why I came.

"Everyone here recognises my talent. I love people booing me, talking about me. The fans never boo a bad player. I excite the fans because I want to give my best."

Diouf claimed there was mutual respect between himself and manager Sam Allardyce, who had helped the Senegal international revitalise his career.

"Sam brings the best out in me," Diouf added. "I know if he thinks I am a bad boy, he will not talk to me.

"I am happy with the work I have to do for the team. I believe I am doing my job correctly.

"I am enjoying my life - I love playing football."
