Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu has questioned the Special Prosecutor's focus on Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng instead of investigating high-profile persons indicted in his galamsey report.

Prof Frimpong Boateng, former Environment Minister and IMCIM chair was arrested by the OSP.

He was later granted bail, according to his account to the media.

In a tweet reacting to documents from the OSP, Hon. Ablakwa wondered what has happened to government appointees cited as galamsey kingpins in Prof Boateng's explosive report.

He noted that the persons cited have been made to walk freely while the whistleblower faces arrest over his effort to protect the environment.

Hon. Ablakwa's comments follow concerns that Prof Boateng's arrest may be an attempt to silence him.

"From this intercepted document, it seems it is rather the whistleblower, Prof. K. Frimpong Boateng who appears to be in trouble as the OSP investigates his IMCIM for corruption.

“It's not clear what has happened to the fat cats the Prof indicted in his explosive galamsey report,” his tweet reads.

Meanwhile, Prof Boateng's arrest has raised doubts about the government's seriousness in fighting galamsey, with critics arguing it discourages potential whistleblowers.
