Demolition In Takoradi

By GNA

THE Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA) on Wednesday began demolishing illegal fence walls, sheds, chop bars and other unauthorised structures within Takoradi township.

The exercise, according to GNA, started around 4 am.

Traders, shop owners, friends and relatives of the victims of the exercise could be seen in groups discussing their fate while others openly weep, as a bulldozer rammed through the structures.

Carpenters, carrying their work tools easily gained jobs, as affected shop owners and traders, who attempted to salvage their roofing sheets, louvre shutters among others, engaged their services.

Briefing the GNA, Mr. John Laste, Public Relations officer of SAEMA, said the victims failed to heed a caution by the assembly that such structures should be removed before the exercise began.

He said the exercise besides being part of preparations towards the country’s golden jubilee celebration was also to make the metropolis tidy.

Mr. Laste said the assembly will continue with the exercises to rid the city of all unauthorised structures.
