The Electoral Commission (EC) has pegged GH¢10,000 as the filing fee for the upcoming parliamentary by-election in the Assin North Constituency.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the EC announced that nominations for prospective candidates will be received from June 12 to 14 at the Assin North District Office between 9 am and 12 noon and 2 pm to 5 pm respecively.

Interested candidates, according to the Commission, can download the nomination forms from the EC's website from June 1.

Candidates can submit the completed forms in person or through their proposer, seconder or representative, the statement noted.

The forms, EC said must be supported by 18 registered voters in the constituency and endorsed with the candidate's consent to the nomination.

On the fee, the statement signed by Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa on Tuesday, May 31, said: "The filing fee for the election is Ten thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢10,000.00) per candidate."

All completed forms must be submitted in quadruplicate with two recent passport photographs, according to the electoral management body.

The by-election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 27.

The statement urged all political parties and the general public, especially citizens in Assin North, to take note and be guided accordingly.

"We urge the public to be guided accordingly," parts of the statement concluded.

The by-election has been necessitated by the nullification of the election of the incumbent MP James Gyakye Quayson by the Supreme Court on May 17 on account of dual citizenship.
