NPP flagbearer race: If I also sponsor these pollsters they will tip me as favourite - Afriyie Akoto

Former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto has explained why he is not being mentioned by pollsters to win the flagbearer election of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to him, it is simply because he is not financially sponsoring these pollsters.

He argues that if he also decides to sponsor any poll, he will be tipped to win the NPP flagbearer election later this year.

“I have never sponsored any poll. Find out who is sponsoring those polls.

“If I sponsor a poll I bet you, they will say that I am first but I won’t, it doesn’t serve any purpose,” Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto said while engaging a group of NPP party faithful who picked forms for him to contest the flagbearer election.

The former Kwadaso Member of Parliament is confident that regardless of what the polls are saying, he will come out victorious at the end of the NPPs presidential primaries.

“We know what we are doing on the ground so all the polls in the world can say whatever they want but we are talking about the 900 people who will be voting in the super delegates and the 210,000 delegates who will be voting on the 4th of November, that is what matters. So I don’t know the bases,” Dr. Akoto shared.

The presidential primaries of the NPP are scheduled to be held on November 4.

Dr. Akoto will battle Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyemang, and a few others for the position.
