Former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto has formally joined the flagbearer race of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
On Monday, May 29, a group of party faithful called Friends of Dr. Afriyie Akoto picked forms for the former Minister.
The group believes the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso Constituency is the right person to lead the ruling NPP into the 2024 general elections.
Once Dr. Afriyie Akoto files his nomination form, he will have Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister of Trade and Industry Alan Kyerematen and others to contend with.
The former Minister of State early this year tendered his resignation letter to pursue his presidential ambition.
He has since been working in the background to prepare for the flagbearer election of the NPP this year.
Dr. Akoto is confident that with him as leader of the ruling party, the NPP will be able to break the 8 when President Akufo-Addo finishes serving his second term and leaves office on January 7, 2025.
The NPP flagbearer election is scheduled to be held on November 4.
