A quarrel over the ownership of a puppy has resulted in the severing of a hand of a 23-year-old student of the Twifo-Praso Senior Secondary School

Kwabena Dick, also sustained multiple cutlass wounds on the head, the thigh, the arm and the back and is on admission at the Twifo Praso Government Hospital in the Central Region. The severed left hand has been deposited at the Cape Coast Regional Hospital mortuary.

Esi Kesewa, alias Mama Tess and her 21-year-old son, Gabriel Kwamena Ababio, both residents of Twifo Praso Mampong, have been charged at the Twifo Praso District Court for conspiracy and attempted murder.

The court, presided over by Seth Bio-Nyamekye, after rejecting their plea, remanded them in prison custody until March 8.

A source at the Twifo Praso Police Station said that last Friday, at about 2 pm, Dick went to his mother's house for supper and while returning from the mother's house about 10 pm, he came across his puppy, which had been missing for a fortnight.

Dick, according to the source, thus followed the dog which entered a guest house belonging to Ms Kesewa. There, its barking attracted Ms Kesewa who reportedly raised the alarm that Dick had stolen the animal.

On hearing his mother's shouts, Ababio allegedly rushed out with a machete and slashed at Dick's hand.

The source alleged that two guests in the house at the time joined in the attack and later reportedly dumped Dick in a nearby bush on Ms Kesewa's instructions.

However, the source said, Dick managed to crawl to a point from where his groans attracted a passer-by who, with the help of others, took him to the hospital where he mentioned Ms Kesewa and Ababio as those who attacked him.

He is reported to be in stable condition and responding to treatment.
