23.05.2023 LISTEN

Results from the first 10 of the 75 polling stations in the Kumawu constituency by-election indicate that the NPP candidate, Ernest Yaw Anim is in a firm grip.

The by-election was held to fill the vacancy created after the demise of the incumbent MP, Mr. Philip Basoa.

Results from the 10 polling stations out of a total of 75 show that Ernest Yaw Anim of the NPP has polled a total of 2,235 votes.

His main challenger, Akwasi Amankwah of the NDC, managed only 427 votes across the same 10 polling stations.

The two independent candidates, Kwaku Duah (1) and Kwaku Duah (2) polled181 and 1 votes respectively from the 10 polling stations.

The NPP candidate dominated in all the 10 polling stations, clinching over 50% of the votes cast in most locations.

His margin of victory over the NDC candidate ranged between 100 to 200 votes in the various polling stations.

Some of the large margins recorded for the NPP candidate include:

• Polling Station 1: Kumawu NPP -150 ; NDC - 17

• Sekyere Mission : NPP- 252; NDC - 122
• Bodomase L/A2 Primary: NPP - 269; NDC - 65

If the trend continues across the remaining 65 polling stations, the NPP candidate, Ernest Yaw Anim, is likely to win the hotly contested by-election by a landslide.

However, final results from all 75 polling stations will determine the eventual winner of the Kumawu constituency by-election.

The Election Commission is yet to declare results from the remaining 65 polling stations.
