The Inspector General of Police(IGP), Mr. George Akuffo Dampare has assured that the upcoming Kumawu Constituency by-election will be the most peaceful under the 4th Republic.

At a meeting with key political stakeholders including the NPP and NDC on Monday, May 22, the IGP indicated that the Ghana Police Service will ensure law and order during the election scheduled for Tuesday, May 23.

In a brief shared by the NDC's General Secretary, Mr. Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, the IGP stated, "all Police Officers who will have a role to play in the by-election will be in Police uniforms and their names will be boldly displayed on their uniforms."

Mr. Kwetey said the NDC had expressed concerns "regarding non-uniformed personnel of the Police Service who have been cited for major and unfortunate security mishaps in past by-elections."

However, the IGP reiterated his outfit's commitment and assured the stakeholders that "this will be the best by-election in the 4th Republic in terms of maintaining law and order by the Police Service."

The NDC General Secretary commended the IGP "for the splendid work done on maintaining law and order at the recent Parliamentary and Presidential Primaries of the NDC."
