The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Iddris, has warned District Chief Executives (DCEs) in the region to stop using official vehicles for their private errands.

He said reports indicate that some DCEs had taken possession of vehicles allocated for projects under their jurisdiction, removed the logos and used the vehicles for their private purposes.

Alhaji Idris gave this warning when he handed over three pick-ups to three districts in the region for monitoring purposes.

The vehicles, were donated by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), under phase two of its Transport Sector Programme Support (TSPS).

He told the DCEs to entrust the vehicles in the hands of schedule officers and allow them to use it for the purpose for which they were donated.

Alhaji Idris also called for regular maintenance of the vehicles to ensure longer live span, noting that some drivers and officers do not care about routine servicing of their vehicles until major faults develop.

Abraham Odoom, Deputy Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, who witnessed the handing over, thanked the DANIDA for the donation and advised the beneficiaries to handle them with maximum care.
