The management of Scancom Limited, providers of Areeba mobile service in Ghana, has explained that its decision to convert from call unit-based denominations to cedis denominations is to enhance individual call expenditure management and reinforce transparency in the billing process.
A statement by the company in Accra to address some concerns raised by customers regarding the change, said 'the actual cost of vouchers has not changed.'
'Pre-paid customers used to buy ¢150 units for ¢45,000. This has not changed. What has changed is that calls are now denominated in cedis. Recharge vouchers will now come in ¢45,000 – ¢75,000 – ¢116,000 and ¢174,000 denominations.'
It said that in order to provide additional value to its customers during this transition, those who purchase ¢116,000 vouchers will receive ¢4,000 free talk time, and customers buying ¢174,000 vouchers will receive ¢6,000 in free talk time.
The statement said units transfer would follow the same trend. 'They will now come in ¢6,000, ¢12,000, ¢18,000, ¢24,000 and ¢30,000.'
