The Accra Regional Police Command has embarked on an exercise to arrest and prosecute all vehicles with obscure and faded number plates.
This follows public outcry over the increasing number of such vehicles in the capital.
Vehicles with such number plates make it difficult to identify them, especially when such vehicles have been used to commit crimes such as robbery and hit-and-run.
So far, 16 of the vehicles have been impounded at the Kpeshie Division where the exercise began January 25, this year.
The Regional Police Command wishes to advise all vehicle owners and drivers, especially of commercial vehicles which are the worst offenders to ensure that their number plates are conspicuously clear and must also be reflective enough.
The police also advised against the use of chalk or paint to write the registration numbers on vehicles.
