Virtual market software launched

TradeNet.biz, a communications product designed to deliver a virtual market and to facilitate cross border trade in farm produce has been launched in Accra.

The new service would enable farmers and traders across Africa to share prices of various agricultural products through the use of mobile phone text messages.

The service, available in 12 countries in Africa, would also to help them fix prices for their goods through the use of mobile phone text messages.

A public demonstration of the product was due on at the Agbogbloshie market in Accra on Wednesday.

The Marketing Information Service Unit Manager at the Market Information System and Trades' Organizations in West Africa (MISTOWA), Patrice Annequin said his outfit had embarked on several training programs for the various trader and farmer associations to enable them benefit from the program.

According to Mr. Annequin, agricultural information points would be set up at the various markets to help farmers and traders sign up for the service.
