ACHIMOTA Lady golfers, ably supported by their counterparts from the Tema Country Golf Club on Thursday paid the respect and solidarity due their lady captain, Clara Price, when as many as 37 ladies turned up for the club’s 2006/7 Lady Captain’s Prize tournament at Achimota.

Club President Mike Ezan and Captain Dr Kwame Saarah-Mensah graciously applauded the ladies, in their separate comments for their huge support in keeping the club together with their commitment and their organisational solidarity.

Mr Ezan described the huge turn out especially on a week-day as unprecedented and used the occasion to urge the ladies to give the incoming lady captain, Mary Hanson & Co, equal support for the growth of ladies golf in the country.

To cap the well organised tournament which marked the exit of the Clara Price Committee, the main event winner, Margaret Carrasco, who returned to five-under 67 net score received a round trip air ticket to London, a donation by the G.I.S. and a trophy as her prize.

Carrasco beat Susie Abaloo-Kumassah 69 net, Annette Horsman 71 net and Margaret Owusu-Baah 72 net in that order. Twelve participants received trophies in the Silver division of the tournament.

S. Postma took the bronze top prize with a five score of 68 net or a 4-under to beat the surprise new comer Dr Mercy Bannerman in her very first major action, 69 net one shot better than mercurial Ama Morgan 70 net.

Veteran Victor Danku made a success come back after a long lull to win the men’s support event returning 70 while K. Tettedzie beat Opoku Mensah on count back for the runner-up position, all having returned 71 net apiece.
