Make Realistic Resolutions - Dasi Tulasi
24.01.2007 LISTEN

At the beginning of every year we all set out goals or objectives which we wish to achieve by the end of that year.

Although there may be certain things we may not be able to achieve in a particular year, that should not be the end. We must strive to achieve them in the following year.

So as you set new goals for yourselves this year, here are some points I would like to suggest to all young people to bear in mind.

Young people must know that the best goal or resolution which they can set for themselves is the determination to study hard and make their parents proud.

As students, your major obligation is to stay glued to your books and improve on your academic performance. That way, you justify the huge investments your parents make in you.

You should also not forget to be obedient to people in authority. If in the previous year you were disobedient or led any wayward life, this is the time to call it quits.

Do not be recalcitrant and strive for a life which will earn you praises and make other parents to encourage their children to emulate your good character.

You should also avoid peer pressure and shy away from all the negative lifestyles which your friends lead. Always remember that we are different people with different missions on earth.

Therefore, never allow friends to dictate to you how to lead your life. Let us also remember to avoid acts such as hooliganism, occultism, indiscipline and the disruption of academic work through unnecessary demonstrations in school.

Above all, we should bear in mind that we are the future leaders of this country whom others would look up to for its success.

Our failure means failure for the nation. So let's get our resolutions right.
