The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says it doubts if the death of eleven people in the Western Region over the weekend was the result of cyanide spillage from Bogoso Mines as suspected.
Two children, two women and six men, apparently died from diverse poison complications after drinking from the Ankobra River and consuming fish caught from the same source.
The death of the eleven people from Tumantu, a village in the Nzema East District of the Region is thought to have been caused by cyanide poisoning, but the EPA suspects the death of the eleven people might be the result of bad fishing practices.
The Western Region has been the hot-bed of chemical spillages from mining companies in the country over recent years.
The people in that region have had to contend with several such inconveniences to their way of life and livelihood year after year.
