During the holy month of Ramadan, Kano State's Hisbah Board has deployed what they called religious police to mosques to safeguard the safety of people and property, as well as arrest Muslim youths eating in public.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the board warned that those who engage in social vices during the sacred month will be punished. The religious police force also called on Muslims to assist orphans and the needy during the fasting period which started on Thursday.

The board's commander-general, Harun Ibn-Sina, stated that the youths who eat in public during the fasting period will not be spared. “Some of the youth who eat in public during the fasting period will not be spared,” he said.

Kano State's Hisbah Board is responsible for enforcing Islamic law in the largely Muslim state. The deployment of religious police to mosques during Ramadan is aimed at ensuring a safe and peaceful environment for Muslims during the holy month.
