NDC NDC Polls: Aspirants in Western Region urged to run clean campaign
MAR 21, 2023 LISTEN

A broadcast journalist and the host of the late afternoon political and current affairs show on Ellembelle-based West End Radio, Nhyiraba Gideon alias 'Political Magot' has advised all the prospective aspirants who are contesting in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Primaries to run clean campaign.

The National Executives Committee (NEC) of NDC has scheduled May 13, 2023 for the election of its 2024 Parliamentary Candidates across the country.

In Western Region, the parliamentary primaries exercises in Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira, Tarkwa-Nsuaem and Amenfi East Constituencies have been put on hold due to some internal issues.

Expressing his thought concerning some personal attacks some supporters of the aspirants have started engaging themselves in, Nhyiraba Gideon who has over 20 years experience in journalism and who also did a political science in school noted that the current personal attacks some supporters were engaging in would affect the progress of the party.

He said it was not good for a political party in opposition to engage in personal attacks.

"In fact, as a political science student and a journalist, I become worried when I hear some people doing politics of insults, it is not good at all", he said.

He emphasized that "in internal elections, whatever you say about your opponent which is not factual, other political parties will use it against you in future and there is no way you can defend it".

He, therefore, took the opportunity to urge the followers of all the aspirants in NDC's Parliamentary Primaries not to use social media and traditional media to attack themselves.

He also condemned the earlier attacks which had gone viral regarding the upcoming NDC Parliamentary Primaries.

On Ellembelle NDC Parliamentary Primaries, Nhyiraba Gideon rebuked some NDC members who have been using social media to attack the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.

He said those people attacking Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah on social media without any tangible basis should put an immediate stop to it.

He also advised the supporters of Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah not to respond to those people and remain peaceful.

"In fact, I'm not happy about the needles attacks on Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, an internal contest should be devoid of personal attacks, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah is an astute politician in Ghana so if he comes from Ellembelle Constituency then the good people of Ellembelle Constituency should be proud of him. If you are an NDC member and you use social media to write something about Armah Kofi-Buah which is not true, the NPP members will pick and use it against him in 2024 and I don't think you can defend it, you can never defend it so those NDC members should desist from this bad act", he urged.

Nhyiraba Gideon moreover took the opportunity to appeal to the NDC supporters of Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Constituency to also respect their incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Kofi Arko Nokoe.

"Some NDC members too in Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira have started attacking their MP, Kofi Arko Nokoe, this is unfair, if you think you don't like him, wait until May 13th then you go to the poll to vote against him than use the social media to attack him, let us all stop these", he stated.

He emphasized that he would not allow anybody to call onto his political show on West End Radio to attack any Parliamentary Candidate or any individual.

He, therefore, wished all the NDC parliamentary aspirants the best of luck in the upcoming parliamentary primaries slated for May 13, 2023.
