A THIRTY one-year-old resident of Cape Coast had a nefarious speciality: stealing laptop computers and other gadgets, especially at conferences and from passengers.
Isaac Kojo Smith allegedly usually attends conferences and seminars, well dressed as an active participant only to steal laptops and other electronic equipment at the functions at the least opportunity
On buses, his modus operandi would be to strike a close acquaintance with a fellow passenger whom he ended up robbing of valuables.
Luck however ran out for him on December 22, when he stole a laptop computer, 850 dolalrs ¢169,000 and other personal effects from a lady passenger on an Accra-Takoradi STC bus.
Smith was said to have escaped with the items when the bus made a stop-over at the Cape Coast terminal at 8:15 pm. He and allegedly conveyed the STC items to his house in his private car which he had parked at the S.T.C. yard.
The Central Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Rose Bio Atinga, who briefed the Times, said the lady, returned to the bus and realising that her luggage had been taken away she raised an alarm.
Acting on a tip-off, Smith was arrested in his house that same day. She said the items were found in his room during a search by the police.
Ms. Atinga said a number of passports, pictures, complimentary cards, cheque books, computer software, two other laptops, and a projector were also found in the room.
