Opinion Outrageous water prices on UDS Nyankpala Campus

The current situation at Nyankpala town in the Northern Region of Ghana is causing a huge problem for students and dwellers of the town. The problem started after the government constructed a new road in the town, during the construction of the road, the pipelines connected to the town were intended to be temporally disconnected but unfortunately, more than five years down the lane, the pipelines have not been reconnected. This time is definitely not the time to point fingers but the time to have the solution. I made further research about the availability of boreholes in the community but to my surprise, there are many boreholes with no water. This is a major crisis and the students on campus as well as the dwellers of the town have committed no crime to go through these hardships.

The means of getting water to the village is done by a tricycle, taking advantage of their situations and charging them so much for just a little amount of water. A gallon that costs 0.50p elsewhere is being sold for 2.50p. People are really struggling and have made calls for help. But unfortunately, no one in the right office has made a proper attempt to help the people of the village.

On behalf of my people as a Northerner, I humbly plead with the good government of this country to come to their aid. The stress of getting water should be a thing of the past, the resources being used to buy water can be used for other productive activities.

I believe there are able men, who can see to it that, this issue is tackled amicably.

Long live Ghana
