JAN 20, 2023 LISTEN

The terms of the 10 remaining senators in the Legislative power in Haiti end this year in 2023. The terms of the Deputies have already ended.

The current Prime Minister Ariel Henry remains alone in power.

Prime Minister Ariel was chosen by former President Jovenel Moïse so that he could continue the new constitution, the security of the country, and organize fair elections.

Haiti is a country in the Caribbean that is classified as a country facing many political crises, poverty, gang violence, and other issues. Since when the current Prime Minister was chosen without being elected, he announced that there would be elections. The elections were canceled because he did not proceed with the new constitution and the referendum. Haitian citizens and leaders in Haiti and in the diaspora did not accept the elections.

Rising Haitian politician Werley Nortreus always thought that young leaders must be integrated into the country's politics. He thought the idea of the new constitution of former President Moïse involving candidates under 35 years old in the Legislative branch is a good idea, but he proposed new amendments to the constitution where candidates under 35 years old must be for the 3 branches, according to a petition that he created in 2022.

While the terms of the Senators and Deputies are over in the country, Nortreus says that the remaining Judges and the judiciary branch can still consider and approve the new amendments that he proposed before the elections in the country directly or by a referendum to respect the human rights of all citizens, according to a statement that he says on January 19, 2023.

According to Nortreus, even the current Prime Minister can consider and approve the new amendments as well, directly or by a referendum.

“Even when the terms of the Senators and Deputies end, it is still possible for the Haitian Government to approve the new amendments to the constitution before the elections. The Judges and the jurisdiction can still approve the amendments directly or by a referendum”, Politician Nortreus said on January 19, 2023.

Nortreus said that he is ready to meet and present his plan and draft of the new amendments with the Judges of the Supreme Court (Cour De Cassation) and other leaders in power if welcomed in order to consider and approve the new amendments that he proposes before the elections.

Nortreus urges Haiti to take the case of these new amendments, which he proposes not only to integrate new young candidates into the country's politics and to keep the country out of the crisis that it is in now.
